We’ll be holding our tenth Anniversary celebrations May 1 – 4 2009. Incredible but true! Seems just like yesterday… Exhibition matches, tournaments, a big dinner…
When Mike first started building the tennis courts the T&RA (the governing body) told him that without an apparently vital business plan, nor any costings, they half expected the place to be a warehouse within a couple of years. Despite this scepticism we continue to improve and flourish, albeit the growth rate is slow! The highlight of the season to date has been our remarkable 2-1 victory over Cambridge (led by world champion Rob Fahey) October 24th.
Since then it’s been a busy month in the real tennis calendar, including the staging of the British Open at Queens Club. World Champion Rob Fahey captured both the singles and doubles titles (each for the umpteenth time), this year partnered by former supreme rackets world champion, and 1999 British Open Champion, James Male, dragged out of retirement to stop a gap caused by illness in Australia.. Ricardo and his regular partner Bryn, made it through to the semi-finals of the doubles, losing to Camden Riviere and Nick Wood.
Prested continued their good form in the National League Premier Division with a win at home to top-of-the-table Hampton Court. Ricardo comfortably beat Ben Matthews in the first singles, while Bryn came from a set down to beat (an admittedly injured) Nick Wood who scratched from the doubles to prevent making his foot even worse. Our next Premier League match is on December 19′” and with 2 tickets for £5 it is a great opportunity to watch some top quality tennis. Dan Mead held one of his regular Quiz Nights in mid-November in aid of Essex Air Ambulance. Although there was a smaller turnout than in previous years it was a very enjoyable event which raised about £70 for Essex Air Ambulance!
