Real Tennis
|
Real (or Royal) Tennis is a fascinating indoor racket sport - the original Tudor game, from which lawn tennis has evolved. The last Real Tennis court in Essex was in Chelmsford at the time of Henry VIII, so we have put this right by building two courts at Prested – two of only 26 courts in the UK.
|
Some liken the game to a combination of squash, chess and snooker on court. |

Real Tennis is a game of tactics which can be played either with speed or guile, making it an ideal game for all ages … some people start at an early age, others in their middle years, and plenty don’t try it until they have retired. Most of Prested’s Real Tennis members hadn’t played the game before we built the courts at Prested, so come and find out why it is so exciting.
Real Tennis can be played by two or four people, and the scoring system is similar to lawn tennis, with some additional rules which become clear once you are on court.
Our professionals, Ricardo Smith and Ben Matthews with assistance from Lawn Tennis Pro Steve Taylor, will be pleased to welcome you … contact them, please, on their direct line : 01376 570220 or email them: prestedproshop@aol.com.
If you are interested in trying the game, they will be happy to offer you one free introductory real tennis lesson.
Prested is currently offering coaching bursaries to talented youngsters who'd like the challenge of an ancient but new-to-them game. Call 01376 573734. |
